Reports coming from Turkish media outlet Turkish-Football.com are suggesting that Everton are in the hunt for the signature of Besiktas star Oguzhan Ozyakup, should their pursuit of Jack Wilshere fail.
The former Arsenal midfielder has also attracted the interest of his former club which means that Sam Allardyce will need to be decisive to land a player who is in the form of his career.
And we think that means Allardyce should make Ozyakup his number one target and forget about Wilshere.
Despite flattering to deceive in his early days with the Gunners – where he made just two appearances – the Dutch-born Turkish international has gone from strength to strength in the Super Lig and now at the age of 25, he is approaching the best form of his career.
With the possibility of getting the midfielder on a free in the summer when his contract comes to an end, there will undoubtedly be a number of suitors, aside from Arsenal.
While Everton’s likelihood of bagging Wilshere appears to hinge on whether or not the Gunners offer the England midfielder an improved deal compared to the current one on the table, the Toffees ought to concentrate on the Turk.
The arrival of Ozyakup would see him link back up with his former teammate Cenk Tosun, who only arrived at Goodison in January and has been on a goal frenzy of late, and create an exciting partnership.
In other Everton news, Toffees star must take heed of Barkley warning of face Goodison axe.
