Wolves agree to hire Nuno Espirito Santo ally, club chiefs privately thrilled with deal

Rob Edwards has added a new name to his backroom staff as Wolves attempt the Great Escape from Premier League relegation.

The Old Gold remain at the bottom of the table after 15 games, with Edwards’ side losing 4-1 to Man United on Monday, 8 December, and have just two points to date.

Wolves remain favourites to be relegated despite the sacking of Vitor Pereira, with the new manager yet to win any of his four games in charge since leaving Middlesbrough.

While supporters will be looking ahead to the January transfer window, hoping that new signings lift them out of the bottom three, the club are attempting to add new faces behind the scenes.

Rui Pedro Silva returns to Wolves alongside Rob Edwards

Despite a positive first half against the Red Devils, scenes eventually turned ugly at Molineux Stadium, with supporters singing for the board to be sacked. But some react well to the latest news.

Taking to X (9 December), The Telegraph’s John Percy revealed: Rob Edwards is adding Rui Pedro Silva to his backroom staff. RPS worked at Wolves with Nuno Espirito Santo and was last in work at Forest.

“He knows the club and city, and is seen as a positive appointment during a difficult time,” joining Harry Watling, Paul Trollope, and Danny Alcock in the dugout, alongside the manager.

The Old Gold are next up against league leaders Arsenal, which could be another difficult fixture for Edwards and his staff, and potentially another chance for the supporters to have their voices heard.

What are Wolves planning ahead of the January transfer window?

Supporters would love for there to be a change of ownership, but Football Insider understands that Wolves’ owners would have to sell at a cut-price fee if that were to happen.

Of course, with relegation very possible this season, it is important for the club not to overspend in the upcoming transfer window next month, but they also need to balance bringing in players for the coach.

Football Insider understands that Wolves have registered an interest in James Trafford, who is expected to leave Man City next month, but more than a goalkeeper will be required to secure safety.

Fans are desperate for improvements all over the field, from goalkeeper to striker, even with Jorgen Strand Larsen and Tolu Arokodare up front, with no team scoring fewer this term.

It is an awfully desperate time for the Old Gold, but some will take positives from the recent arrival at Molineux, while others will be unable to think of anything other than the worst right now.
