Wolves ‘concerned’ more star players to quit after Joao Gomes transfer mission
Wolves have endured a disastrous start to the Premier League season so far and are growing increasingly fearful of suffering relegation.
Vitor Pereira’s side lost 3-2 to Burnley in their last league clash and remain winless from nine games played, before a 4-3 defeat to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
Football Insider revealed on 27 October that Pereira is close to being sacked by Wolves and could be given just three games to save his job before the international break.
However, it is not just the manager’s future causing concerns at Molineux, with doubts now growing surrounding a number of their star players.
Among those linked with a move away is Joao Gomes, who has been a crucial player in the heart of Vitor Pereira’s midfield, but could soon be tempted away.

Wolves fear Joao Gomes could quit amid relegation concerns
Gomes signed a new contract at Wolves in April to extend his stay until 2030 and deter growing interest after his impressive displays last season.
However, as a result of the ongoing turmoil at Molineux, a number of “top clubs” in the Premier League and abroad have sent scouts to keep tabs on Gomes’ performances.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Wolves will “inevitably” lose star players if they are relegated.
“Given the situation at Wolves, it’s going to be difficult,” he told Football Insider.
“A lot of top clubs in the Premier League will be looking at Wolves and thinking, which of these players could be available to us if they get relegated?
“It’s inevitable, the clubs who back themselves to stay up will start assessing the ones in trouble and seeing which of their players might improve them.
“We saw it last year with Southampton, players like Tyler Dibling and Mateus Fernandes left.
“It’s a shame for Wolves, because they had built a strong squad, and they won’t want to lose their best players, but they’ll be concerned some could walk away.

“One of those players is Joao Gomes, who has been on the radar of top clubs for some time.
“They will be sending scouts to keep tabs on his performances, so that they have the most up-to-date information on how he has been playing.
“Sometimes, even when a team is playing as poorly as Wolves are, players like Gomes can still stand out and that is what they will be looking for.”
Gomes sent a message to Wolves fans following the discontent after losing to Burnley at Molineux, and has maintained a strong relationship, but could be tempted to leave.
Gomes has admirers including Man United and Liverpool
While the midfielder’s performances have dropped off along with his teammates’ this season, he has a number of long-term admirers from last season’s displays.
Football Insider exclusively revealed in January that Liverpool and Man United were keeping tabs on Gomes, before he signed a new deal at Wolves.
United remain determined to sign a new midfielder and could reignite their interest, while multiple clubs both domestically and in Europe are also interested.

The midfielder joined Wolves in January 2023 from Flamengo for £15million, and any exit would likely land them a significant profit on his sale.
While they are extremely reluctant to lose their star players, there is a growing feeling they could be forced to sell, particularly if they suffer relegation.
