Wolves Exclusive: Update on potential Gary O’Neil sack

Gary O’Neil will face intense sack pressure at Wolves if the Midlands club’s results don’t improve, sources have told Football Insider.

The Molineux club are bottom of the Premier League and are yet to win in the 2024-25 campaign.

Liverpool, Brentford and Man City lie in wait for Wolves in their next three top-flight games and sources say scrutiny will grow on O’Neil if they remain winless.

It is believed results will dictate the 41-year-old’s future at Molineux after a tough fixture list to start the new season.

Sources say O’Neil has “credit in the bank” with club chiefs after his performance in the role last term.

He signed a new four-year contract at Molineux last month after leading Wolves to a 14th-place finish in the 2023-24 campaign.

The ex-midfielder only arrived at Wolves days before the start of last season following Julen Lopetegui’s bombshell resignation.

O’Neil’s side lost two top stars in the summer window, with Max Kilman and Pedro Neto completing moves to West Ham and Chelsea respectively.

Wolves started the new season with league defeats against Arsenal and Chelsea, before picking up a draw away at Nottingham Forest on 31 August.

The Molineux club have also lost against Aston Villa and Newcastle, while Brighton dumped them out of the League Cup last week (18 September).

In a further blow, centre-back Yerson Mosquera was stretchered off with an apparent knee injury during the defeat against Villa on Saturday (21 September).
