Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have taken to Twitter to fume at reported complaints to the Football League about the influence at their club of super-agent Jorge Mendes.
The Telegraph claim that big-hitting Championship trio Leeds United, Aston Villa and Derby County have voiced their concern to the governing body over transfer activity at the runaway leaders.
The concerns are connected with the influence of Mendes over the recruitment policy at Wolves, with his clients such as Ruben Neves and Ivan Cavaleiro integral to firing Wolves to the top of the second tier.
The Telegraph report that one team is writing to the Football League calling for an official inquiry after dissatisfaction raised by Leeds, Villa and Derby, the latter two of whom have strong promotion shouts, and that the matter will be discussed on Thursday at the Football League’s monthly board meeting.
Wolves fans on social media are apoplectic over what they claim is a thinly-veiled attempt to derail their club’s bid to secure promotion.
A section of supporters urged the team to cultivate a siege mentality, with one stating that manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s team talk for Wednesday night’s league clash at Elland Road is “sorted now”.

A lot of jealous people/clubs out there. This hits the nail on the head for me. Villa fans crying about it who’ve spent more than us? Derby who’ve squandered millions. Leeds I don’t even need to comment on. Get a life! #wwfc pic.twitter.com/rm8cNttp9j

Who will be the next team to be given a hammering by Wolves? And I don’t just mean a normal run of the mill hammering, I mean a real hammering, Ageing Villa or Dirty Leeds? #wwfc

Pathetic attempt to unsettle Wolves in the business end of the season. Cant do it on the pitch so lets try dirty tactics. Heard it all before with Man City and Chelsea so fake news but funny how those 3 clubs can complain. Villa spent £80m and Derby spend huge wages on OAPs ????

He doesn’t have a role and we have more players at the club under world in motion agency than we do from mendes agency.

So we’re fine then, as Mendes has no agreement or official role at the club? He just helps out his close friends, who happen to own our club, with advice and recommendations from his own talent pool. Same relationship all clubs and agents have ????

Wolves have topped the Championship since the start of the season and, despite taking just two points out of a possible nine from their last three matches, are six points clear of second-placed Cardiff City.
Leeds have won just once in 12 matches and are lagging behind in 12th place in the table, eight points adrift of Bristol City in sixth.
In other Leeds United news, the club are about to begin confirmed talks to sign up a 32-year-old whose game is dusted by genius.
