Wolves favourites to beat Celtic and Rangers to Silas Andersen deal as financial boost imminent

Wolverhampton Wanderers are well-placed to beat Celtic and Rangers to the signing of Silas Andersen this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Rob Edwards’ side are preparing for their imminent relegation from the Premier League, and the 21-year-old has been identified as a player who could immediately help them bounce back from the Championship next term.

The Old Firm duo both remain interested in the midfielder after previously pursuing a deal back in January, but sources say that Wolves’ financial situation is making them the most likely candidate to secure Andersen’s signature.

The Black Country outfit are set to be boosted by parachute payments if they suffer relegation, which is likely to have a knock-on effect on their spending capability.

Andersen recently signed a new contract with Swedish side BK Hacken, who are not prepared to let their star man leave without a fight this summer.

Wolves capable of affording expensive Silas Andersen deal

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Hacken value Andersen extremely highly, and are set to hold out for a fee “well in excess” of the £5-6million mark for him as a result.

Their asking price ultimately saw them fend off the interest from Celtic and Rangers in the winter window, and they are now under even less pressure to sanction a sale after recently tying their star man down to a new deal until 2029.

Striking a deal appears to be an uphill battle once again for the pair of Glasgow giants this summer, but it could be a different story for Wolves.

The Premier League’s bottom club are in line to receive parachute payments if they are relegated, as part of a bid from the league to help make up for the loss in revenue elsewhere.

That is likely to in turn provide a boost to their transfer budget, which may make a move for Andersen affordable for them.

The youngster starred for Hacken with five goals and three assists from the centre of midfield this year, and he could be about to take his talents to England next term.

Wolves keen to sanction lucrative sale to Rangers

Football Insider revealed last week that Wolves have set a sizeable asking price for Rangers loanee Nasser Djiga, which could see them net a significant amount if the Gers try and strike a permanent deal.

The centre-back has returned to the starting XI under Danny Rohl in recent weeks, and he has impressed as his loan club continue their bid to secure a first Scottish Premiership title since 2021.

Rohl and Co. are desperate to add centre-back reinforcements ahead of next season, but Wolves are clear that they want big money to allow Djiga to leave permanently.

The Burkina Faso international is under contract at Molineux until the summer of 2030, and could even find himself involved in the first-team squad at his parent club next term.
