‘Wolves finally expect to make money back on record-breaking deal’

Wolves are hoping to finally cut ties with one of their most ill-fated signings of recent times this summer.

Following an underwhelming 16th place finish in the Premier League this season, there will be exits from Molineux during the transfer window.

Last month, Football Insider reported that Galatsaray are pushing to sign Wolves captain Nelson Semedo on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of this month.

While that exit would be a blow for Vitor Pereira and his side, it appears they are also preparing for an exit they are more open to in the coming months.

Fabio Silva sale moving closer at last

Back in the summer of 2020, Wolves completed the signing of striker Fabio Silva from Porto for a club record fee of £35million [Express and Star], a price that looked even bigger at the time.

That though has proved to be a move that simply has not worked out for anyone involved, with the one-time Portugal international being loaned out on multiple occasion after failing to fire at Molineux.

The second half of the 2023/24 season saw the attacker make a temporary move to Ibrox, where Silva failed to impress the Rangers faithful.

As a result, Rangers elected not to sign the Wolves man permanently last summer, and he was instead loaned out to Las Palmas for this season.

While he was unable to prevent the club suffering relegation from La Liga, Silva did at least impress with 10 goals and three assists in 24 league games.

Because of that, an update from The Athletic has now stated that his parent club are at last “hopeful” they can make some money from the 22-year-old this summer.

With Silva now entering the final year of his contract at Molineux, it is said that Wolves are “optimistic” of finding a new club to purchase the striker.

Wolves exit will be a welcome one

Football Insider Verdict

Given his contract situation means there is some pressure on them to accept an offer, and the fact he has struggled to show much worth during his time there, it is hard to sees Wolves making a profit on Silva.

Even so, it will still be a relief for those at Molineux if they are able to move the striker on during the course of this transfer window.

After a largely disappointing campaign there is a need to strengthen, and any money brought in can be a bonus in helping with that, especially if it is for a player who will not be in their plans going forward.

Things have simply not worked for Silva since he arrived at Wolves, and moving him on will at least ensure they do not have to worry about dealing with his situation next season.

At 22-years-old, there is of course plenty of time for the striker to turn things round in his career again, and a permanent move that allows him to settle somewhere could help with that.

With that in mind, a sale here does seem to be the best outcome for all parties in the summer transfer window.
