Wolves make Joao Gomes contract announcement amid Liverpool, Man United links

Wolves have made a major announcement regarding Joao Gomes’ contract amid interest from Premier League giants Liverpool and Man United.

This season has been an underwhelming one for the Old Gold, with perhaps their biggest saving grace being the lack of quality shown by the three promoted clubs from the Championship.

Wolves are likely safe from relegation, thanks to the shortcomings of Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich.

However, that is not to say there have been no bright spots this season for the Midlands side, with the emergence of Tottenham target Rayan Ait-Nouri and Gomes, paired with Nottingham Forest target Matheus Cunha‘s moments of both brilliance and madness.

With some of the Premier League‘s most financially well-equipped sides circling their talents, Wolves have received a boost ahead of the summer transfer window.

Wolves tie down Joao Gomes with new contract till 2030

Wolves announced on their Instagram page that Liverpool and Man United target Gomes has signed a new contract with the club.

The post from the Old Gold reads: “Joao Gomes has signed a new contract to stay at Molineux”.

The midfielder joined the club in January 2023 from Flamengo for £15million [BBC Sport] and has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most talented young midfielders.

During his time with the Midlands club, Gomes has also gone on to make 10 appearances for his national side Brazil.

Wolves set for difficult challenge next season

Football Insider Verdict

Whilst Wolves look set to avoid relegation this season, next year will likely present similar challenges for the club.

The Old Gold have been on a downwards trajectory in recent times, with each season since the 2020/21 campaign being followed with a lower finish than the last.

The major difference between Wolves and their fellow relegation rivals this season has been Cunha, with the Brazilian forward consistently popping-up with stunning goals seemingly out of nowhere to keep the team competitive.

However, the former Atletico Madrid striker is almost certainly leaving the club in the summer.

Finding a replacement for Cunha will be a monumental task, with Wolves’ recruitment team now tasked to find someone who can replicate not only his moments of magic but also provide a similar presence to the one the ex-RB Leipzig man gives on-pitch.
