‘Wolves primed for new firesale’ after points deduction latest

Wolves have struggled to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in recent seasons, putting them at risk of a points deduction.

The Molineux side were believed to be close to exceeding the £105million loss limit last season and sold stars Max Kilman and Pedro Neto in the last summer window (2024).

Nevertheless, they were one of the Premier League‘s most active clubs in the January window – bringing Nasser Djiga, Marshall Munetsi and Emmanuel Agbadou in for a combined £42million.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed further sales may now be on the cards at Molineux this summer.

Wolves points deduction fears addressed by boardroom source

A Companies House submission on 6 February confirmed Wolves have changed their accounting period from 31 May to 30 June.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted the change is “very normal” and “perfectly legal”.

He suggested the change will allow any further sales by the Midlands club to be reflected in the PSR calculations for this season, rather than the following campaign.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a very normal move.

“A lot of clubs have done it, it’s perfectly legal for them to do it.

“I think it’ll just give Wolves more time to sell players and get revenue in to balance the PSR issue.

“I think that’s pretty clearly what this move is aimed at.”

Matheus Cunha ‘wants to leave Wolves for bigger club

Football Insider revealed on 4 February Wolves star Matheus Cunha is keen to play for a bigger club despite signing a new deal.

The Brazil international penned a new four-and-a-half-year deal this month after registering 12 goals and four assists in 25 appearances this season.

Arsenal explored a move for Cunha in the January window and could reignite their interest in the off-season, with the forward available via a £62.5million release clause.
