‘Wolves set to sell five stars with transfer decision now made’

Wolves are set to sell five first team players this summer in a ruthless squad clear out.

The club has already been busy in the transfer market, with Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri departing and striker Fer Lopez joining from Celta Vigo.

Cunha joined Manchester United in a deal worth £62.5million, whilst Ait-Nouri joined Manchester City for £31m.

Manager Vitor Pereira is conducting his first summer transfer window in charge of the club after replacing the sacked Gary O’Neil last December.

He joined when Wolves were 19th in the table and four points from safety and led them to a 16th placed finish.

Hwang among players to be open to offers

Tom Collomosse of the Daily Mail believes that Boubacar Traore, Tommy Doyle, Hwang Hee-Chan, Sam Johnstone and Craig Dawson will all be leaving Molineux this summer.

Collomosse explained why the club are willing to let these players leave: “In the age of PSR, clubs will always be open to doing deals for those players not considered vital by the coach.

“I think Wolves would, therefore, listen to offers for all of these players.”

Collomosse then stated why Hwang is unlikely to play for the club again: “In the first half of the 2023-24 season, he was excellent under O’Neil but injuries and loss of form meant he never quite got going again after that period.

“In theory, he could be useful to Pereira as he can operate wide or through the middle but I just don’t see him becoming a key player again.”

Hwang is likely to leave Wolves this summer.

Pereira rebuild start of new Wolves

Football Insider verdict

Pereira is freshening up this Wolves squad and looking to free up some space in the wage bill so he can sign his own players.

It is not a surprise to see 35-year-old Dawson on the transfer list or 32-year-old goalkeeper Johnstone, who made just seven Premier League appearances last season.

Traore could only manage one league appearance last season, but at 23 years old perhaps a loan move could have helped the midfielder.

Fellow midfielder Doyle has been given more chances to impress so perhaps Pereira wants to upgrade his options in that department by letting him leave.

Hwang scored 12 goals in the 2023/24 season, so the South Korean has the ability to become a starting Premier League striker.

After one season of injury problems, Hwang could count himself unlucky to now be put on the transfer list.

Although, with the signing of Lopez and Jorgen Strand Larsen having impressed last season, Hwang would find opportunities difficult to come by.

Pereira though has the money from the Cunha and Ait-Nouri sales to be ruthless and be able to fund a rebuild of this Wolves squad.
