Wolves star Hwang Hee-chan sends unfortunate message, Son Heung-min reacts

Hwang Hee-chan sent a message to his social media followers after the Wolves star’s display on the international stage for South Korea.

It has been an extremely difficult season for everyone at Molineux Stadium, bad enough for Wolves to sack Gary O’Neil and hire Vitor Pereira, who is also now under pressure.

With Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton all having worse seasons, the West Midlands side look set to avoid relegation from the Premier League by the skin of their teeth.

Hwang would have put those thoughts to the back of his mind on Thursday 20 March, scoring the opener against Oman just before half-time, but it was yet another day of disappointment as the visitors scored an equaliser with 10 minutes remaining.

Taking to Instagram [20 March], Hwang wrote: “Unfortunate for the result, but thank you for coming and cheering us on even in the cold weather,” with a red heart emoji to the South Korean fans.

Teammates and Tottenham star Son Heung-min liked the post, another player who underwhelmed in the 1-1 draw as the nation looks to qualify for World Cup 2026.

Wolves supporters awaiting painful exit of Matheus Cunha

Football Insider verdict

After notching 12 goals and three assists in the Premier League last season, injuries have forced the winger to become a shell of his former self, which has been pretty disappointing.

Thankfully, Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen have offered enough threat in the final third to keep Wolves nine points above the relegation zone with nine matches remaining.

Wolves are unlikely to face relegation this season.

Things could have gotten a lot more difficult following Cunha’s red card against Bournemouth in the FA Cup, though Keith Hackett believes Wolves helped to reduce the suspension.

Despite his clear issues on the pitch, lashing out far too often and causing problems for his manager, top clubs are lining up to secure his signature once the summer transfer window rolls around.

Mick Brown told Football Insider in January that Arsenal are one of the teams watching Cunha, alongside Man United and Aston Villa, and supporters at Molineux will be fearing his inevitable exit this summer.
