Wolves to agree big-money January sale – Stefan Borson
Wolves could be forced to make a big-money sale in the January transfer window to provide funds for potential new signings.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the West Midlands club’s 31 May year-end provides an issue when it comes to their transfer dealings.
Wolves were believed to be close to breaching the profit and sustainability (PSR) limit last season, with top-flight clubs only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.
Gary O’Neil’s side were forced to part ways with former captain Max Kilman and Pedro Neto in the recent summer transfer window to ease their financial concerns, having raked in close to £100million from those deals.
Wolves are currently sitting second-bottom in the Premier League table and are four points from safety.
But The Telegraph reported on 10 December Molineux chiefs are sticking with O’Neil and are prepared to back their manager with new signings in January.
Wolves expected to be close to PSR limit again
Borson insisted Wolves will likely need to make a significant sale before they can bring anyone through the door.
“Wolves are a team who have been very close on PSR,” Borson told Football Insider.
“They also have this wrinkle that is the 31 May year-end.
“I think their problem will be that they have to get all their dealings from a PSR perspective finished by the end of the January window.
“Wolves, Arsenal and Liverpool all have 31 May year-ends.
“All of the rest of the clubs have 30 June year-ends, which means they have a window as we saw last summer, where in that June period they can make some sales to correct their PSR deficit.
“Wolves won’t have the luxury of being able to do those sales in June because it will be past their year-end.
“They have to make sure by the end of the January window they are sorted for PSR.

“I think it’s unlikely that they are going to be buying. If they are going to buy, I think they will have probably sold first.
“You may see a sizeable deal on the way out and then they will maybe spend some of that money.”
