‘Wolves to sell Matheus Cunha?’ – Expert drops ‘£100m’ verdict
Wolves will likely turn down January bids for star forward Matheus Cunha to strengthen their chances of avoiding relegation this season.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it could cost the West Midlands side up to £100million if they were to lose their top-flight status.
Cunha’s Molineux future is in doubt due to the club’s financial issues and exodus of prize assets in recent transfer windows, with Max Kilman and Pedro Neto having departed in the summer.
Football Insider revealed on 18 December Atletico Madrid are plotting a shock move to re-sign the 25-year-old following his performances this season.
The Brazil international has registered 10 goals and four assists in 19 Premier League games, with his side sitting just one point above the relegation zone.
Wolves could block Matheus Cunha exit after outstanding form
Borson revealed Wolves are likely to wait until the summer before considering offers for Cunha due to his importance at Molineux.
He told Football Insider: “I think you would have to make very big offers to move players in January.
“PSR is real in the Premier League, but how desperate are Wolves to sell Cunha?
“They will probably look at it and go ‘Actually, it’s much more important that we stay in the Premier League’.
“There is no point in taking an extra £15million for a player when that might actually impact your ability to stay in the Premier League.

“That could cost you £100million, so they could just wait until the summer.
“If you go around the league, I think it’s very hard to see any high-quality Premier League players moving in January.”
