Wolves to sell star after official documents filed – Stefan Borson

Wolves were one of the most active Premier League sides in the January transfer window after making three new signings.

A Companies House submission on 6 February confirmed the West Midlands club have changed their accounting period from 31 May to 30 June.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the accounting change is likely to be for profit and sustainability (PSR) reasons.

Wolves were believed to be close to the spending limit last season, with top-flight clubs only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.

Vitor Pereira’s side were the Premier League’s second-biggest spenders behind Manchester City in the recent transfer window after spending more than £42million.

Wolves facing PSR issues after official documents filed

They agreed deals for Emmanuel Agbadou and Marshall Munetsi from Reims, while Nasser Djiga made the move to Molineux from Red Star Belgrade.

Borson insisted Wolves are now likely to sell a player in June to ensure they don’t breach the PSR rules.

He told Football Insider: “I thought the fact they were signing players in January was a sign that they were very confident about PSR and didn’t have any concerns this season.

“That was reinforced by the fact they had a 31 May year-end because a team that has a 31 May year-end, the last opportunity to sell players in this accounting year is in the January window.

“The last two teams that have moved their accounting date were Leicester and Aston Villa. We know Leicester did it specifically for PSR reasons to give themselves more scope to sell players and so did Villa.

“Villa said they weren’t doing it for that reason, but they obviously were given that they went through a whole load of sales in June.

“I suspect it’s the same with Wolves and they will try and sell a player in June. I suspect right now they are slightly above the £105million limit or close enough that they need the flexibility in June.

“I very much doubt that the change has nothing at all to do with any thoughts on PSR and is just purely administrative. It’s possible, but I doubt it.”

Matheus Cunha wants to leave Wolves to join bigger club

The only departures from Molineux in January saw Luke Cundle join Millwall on a permanent deal and Tawanda Chirewa head to Huddersfield Town on loan.

Wolves managed to keep hold of their key players after Arsenal explored a move for star forward Matheus Cunha.

The Brazil international penned a new four-and-a-half-year deal at Molineux earlier this month after registering 12 goals and four assists in 25 appearances this season.

Football Insider revealed on 4 February Cunha is keen to play for a bigger club despite signing a new deal.
