Wolves will surely regret not pushing harder to sign Troy Parrott after what he just did

Troy Parrott is making everyone stand up and applaud after scoring an incredible hat-trick to secure the Republic of Ireland a World Cup play-off spot.

The Republic of Ireland came from behind to beat Hungary 3-2 after Parrott scored in the 80th and 98th minutes.

It was the second time in a week that the 23-year-old came up trumps following his brace against Portugal in a match where Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off.

Unsurprisingly, with 13 goals in 14 games for AZ Alkmaar this term, sources have told Football Insider that many Premier League clubs are looking at signing Parrott ahead of a potential January transfer.

Parrott left Tottenham for AZ permanently last year, while Wolves emerged as a possible destination for the Irishman in the summer.

Wolves wanted to sign Troy Parrott in the summer

Wolves were in the market for a new striker in the summer after top scorer Matheus Cunha joined Manchester United.

It was reported by De Telegraaf in May that the Wanderers were interested in bringing Parrott back to England, with AZ demanding around £25million for his signature.

But after enjoying his best campaign of his senior career to date with 20 goals in all competitions, the former Spurs youngster wanted to stay in the Netherlands.

That said, a lucrative package and a hefty wage could have persuaded him to move to Molineux and prove he’s cut out for the Premier League.

Sadly, the Wanderers ended up shelling out big money on Tolu Arokodare and he’s yet to score in seven Premier League appearances.

Wolves are also the league’s lowest scorers with seven in 11 matches, while sitting bottom with just two points and zero wins.

Parrott finally showcasing his potential

Supporters of the Old Gold will perhaps curse Fosun for not doing everything in his power to bring Parrott to Wolverhampton.

The 2002-born striker is finally showcasing his potential as an elite finisher in Europe, something his potential promised years ago.

Parrott is already approaching the 20-goal mark, and we’re only in November, suggesting that 30 goals is a real possibility in 2025/26.

While some will point to the standard of the Eredivisie being lower, he’s also performing against world-class players on the international stage and would be an excellent signing for any Premier League club.
