Wolves working on deal to sign centre-back – sources

Wolves are working on signing another centre-back during the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Vitor Pereira would Wolves to “bolster their back line” even further this month.

The Midlands giants have already signed Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade de Reims in this transfer window, but the club are hoping to bring another player in before the month ends to provide Pereira with further options.

Wolves currently boast the worst defensive record in the Premier League which has made this an area of focus for Pereira to improve.

The club have conceded 51 goals in 22 matches so far this season which has been a key factor in them losing 14 games already.

Wolves sit 17th in the table at the moment with goal difference being the only thing keeping them out of the relegation zone.

Wolves also want to strengthen in midfield

Wolves would also like to sign a midfielder to reinforce the options available after missing out on Manu Silva, as their deal was hijacked by Benfica.

There are concerns that the club could lose Mario Lemina this month after Pereira confirmed the 31-year-old wants to leave Molineux.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that there has been “a lot of talk” that Lemina could switch the Midlands for Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window.

Wolves

Wolves are also at risk of losing talisman Matheus Cunha in the coming weeks as Arsenal and Nottingham Forest are monitoring his situation.

Cunha has been a crucial part of the squad this season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists.
