‘Worst footballer ever’ – Celtic fans rip into starter who looked like a ‘competition winner’ vs Rangers
Celtic fans have blasted Johnny Kenny online after he failed to impress in Saturday’s Old Firm derby loss against Rangers.
Kenny joined Celtic from Sligo Rovers in 2022, but he has had to wait until this season for his chance in their first team.
The one-cap Republic of Ireland international signed a new four-year contract with the Hoops in the summer, and has been trusted to lead the line under Brendan Rodgers, Martin O’Neill and Wilfried Nancy so far.
Celtic fans have torn into Kenny before now, particularly after poor showings against Dundee United and Aberdeen, yet he has continued to be handed chances and was in the starting lineup to face Rangers on Saturday.
The 22-year-old had numerous chances to score against their arch-rivals at Parkhead, but failed to do so and was punished as Rangers ran out 3-1 winners against Celtic.

Kenny was poor against Rangers with big chance missed and poor duel record
Kenny failed to take numerous chances in the first half after being trusted by under-fire boss Nancy from the off, with just two of his five shots actually testing Jack Butland in the Gers’ net.
He wasted a particularly great opportunity to open the scoring in the 19th minute as he stretched to meet Daizen Maeda‘s cross, but poked it too close to the former England goalkeeper, who got down to save.
Kenny completed just 11 of his 18 passes (61 per cent accuracy), while he only completed one successful dribble from three attempts, and won just four of his 10 aerial and ground duels.
He was taken off in the 74th minute for Shin Yamada during a second half in which he was completely ineffective as Rangers raced into the lead from being 1-0 down.
Celtic fans have slammed Kenny for poor Rangers showing
Celtic have been urged to sell Kenny as Nancy aims to add to his attacking options this month, and it is easy to see why after this performance.
Nancy looks set to be sacked soon, though, and a new manager may have different thoughts on his future at Parkhead.
Taking to X to react to his performance, one Celtic fan said: “Johnny Kenny might be the worst footballer I’ve ever seen.”
Another added: “Johnny Kenny is the worst striker I’ve ever seen in a Celtic jersey.”
While one supporter said: “Feel so bad for Johnny Kenny, this is a humiliation ritual.”
