‘Worst I’ve ever seen!’ – Man United fans issue damning Andre Onana verdicts as exit finally sealed

Man United supporters have been unanimous in their verdict about Andre Onana as he officially leaves the club on loan for the 2025-2026 campaign.

Man United ended the last campaign in 16th position in the Premier League, their worst league finish since 1974, and Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana again struggled to consistently impress in-between the sticks at Old Trafford.

He joined the club for £43.8million [Sky Sports] from Inter Milan back in 2023, but numerous high-profile mistakes over the last two years have seen his stock fall under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.

The 29-year-old remained at the club past the end of the transfer window in the UK, despite previous interest from Monaco and Saudi Arabian sides, but Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (3 September) that Onana was still up for sale with windows in other countries still open for business.

Man United agreed a deal to loan Onana to Trabzonspor on Saturday (6 September), and he has now sealed a move away from the club, with fans reacting to his exit accordingly.

Man United fans rejoice at Andre Onana’s exit as Trabzonspor move announced

Man United posted news of Onana’s departure being made official to their X account on Thursday (11 September) evening, saying: “(Andre Onana) has completed a loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor. Best of luck for the remainder of 2025/26, Andre!”

His mistakes and poor performances have seen him go down in United fans’ estimations over recent months, and the overwhelming majority were pleased to see him leave with new signing Senne Lammens set to be Amorim’s number one goalkeeper.

One Red Devils supporter replied to the announcement on X to say: “Onana caused us so many points, and 2 major trophies. The worst I’ve ever seen!” while another said: “In a depressingly crowded field you could make a strong case for him being our worst signing post Sir Alex [Ferguson].”

Another expressed their dismay at it only being a loan deal, saying: “Don’t ever come back,” while that sentiment was shared as one supporter replied: “Brilliant news, let’s hope it turns into a permanent.”

Man United had wished Onana good luck in their statement, but one fan instead said “Nobody wishes him good luck… Good riddance more like it!!!” to the 29-year-old, while another was clear in their verdict, saying: “Goodbye Onana. You know how they say it’s been a pleasure? It hasn’t.”

While many fans clearly do not want him back, Onana is set to return to Old Trafford next summer with another two years left to run on his contract, so any permanent departure will likely hinge on his performances out in Turkey.

Andre Onana needed to leave Man United with Senne Lammens set to take his place

The fact that United have signed off on a deal to allow him to leave should tell Onana all he needs to know about his current standing with Amorim’s squad.

Altay Bayindir has been chosen to start ahead of him in each of the club’s first three Premier League games this season, and young Belgian stopper Lammens joined Man United just before the deadline last week too.

Onana’s Man United career stats

His arrival is likely what has pushed the Red Devils to sanction this move, and Onana is right to have grabbed it with both hands considering his current prospects at Old Trafford.

The chance to go back abroad and consolidate himself as a number one in a decent league should definitely be something that appeals to him, and even though it is a step down from United in terms of club size, it is set provide him a great platform to get his career back on track to prove United fans wrong.
