Wout Faes flops, Abdul Fatawu heroic – Leicester City player ratings vs West Brom

Marti Cifuentes’s side stole a point at the death as Leicester City drew 1-1 with West Brom at the Hawthorns.

Samuel Iling-Junior opened the scoring in stylish fashion, jinking between Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard before slotting home in front of the Hawthorns crowd on Friday, 26 September.

The Foxes had a chance to move within one spot of the league leaders, Middlesbrough, but it was not enough for Cifuentes’ players as they were forced to settle for a single point on the road.

Abdul Fatawa was expected to shine for Leicester, and after being marked out of the game for much of the 90 minutes, he delivered the cross for Bobby Decordova-Reid to fire across the box, and for Nat Phillips to fire into his own net.

Moments before, Josh Maja had the chance to seal three points for the Baggies, but blazed his effort over the crossbar.

Leicester City’s centre-backs bailed out at the Hawthorns

Jakub Stolarczyk – 6

Very little the goalkeeper could do to deny the opening goal at the Hawthorns. Bounced back well with some key saves to keep his side in the game.

Ricardo Pereira – 7

A mixed performance from the full-back, who continued to push up the field and create chances. However, with the Baggies attacking with every chance, he was caught out of position multiple times.

Wout Faes – 3

Absolutely awful from the Belgian centre-back, especially when going to ground for Iling-Junior’s goal. Missed too many challenges and could not get into the game at all.

Jannik Vestergaard – 4

Much like his centre-back partner, Vestergaard struggled to deal with the threat of West Brom’s attack. His yellow card was slightly controversial, though.

Luke Thomas (Off for Decordova-Reid 73′) – 6

Stable defending from the 24-year-old, who has continued to cement himself as the Foxes’ first choice at left-back.

Jordan James extremely unlucky for Leicester City

Boubakary Soumare – 5

A poor first half, but slowly grew into the game. He carried the ball well, crunched into challenges, and tried his best to push Leicester up the pitch.

Harry Winks – 6

While many of his passes were sideways, he attempted to take more shots at goal than many of his teammates, trying to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Jordan James (Off for Carranza 46′) – 5

Slightly unlucky to be hooked at half-time, but with the Foxes in search of a goal, it made sense for the Welshman to make way for a more attacking figure.

Abdul Fatawu – 8 – Man of the Match

Continued to press all night, but certainly not his best 90 minutes in a Leicester shirt. However, he still popped up with a crucial moment with a cross into the middle at the end.

Stephy Mavididi (Off for Monga 64′) – 6

Very unlucky to be subbed off, but Monga did offer a lot more energy on the flank. Anyone could have been replaced, and it just happened to be him.

Marti Cifuentes’ substitutes clinical against West Brom

Jordan Ayew (Off for Kristiansen 73′) – 4

Offered very little in front of goal. One of his two shots was fired directly at the wall from a free-kick, and that summed up his night at the Hawthorns.

Substitutes

Julian Carranza (On for James 46′) – 3

Pointless substitution. While he may have rattled West Brom’s centre-backs, he did nothing with the ball after, and could not make the desired impact.

Jeremy Monga (On for Mavididi 64′) – 7

Added some much-needed energy to the pitch, and was very unlucky to be carded after being fouled.

Victor Kristiansen (On for Ayew 73′) – 6

Won his tackles when called upon. Steadied the defence after coming on.

Bobby Decordova-Reid (On for Thomas 73′) – 7

Clinical. Got one chance, and fired it back in for an own goal to be scored.

Patson Daka (On for Pereira 81′) – N/A
