Alan Hutton believes that Odsonne Edouard was fired up after Frank McAvennie suggested he was “disinterested” at Celtic.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 22-year-old “shut everybody up” with his hat-trick against Hamilton.

In an exclusive interview with Football Insider, McAvennie admitted he thought the French hitman looked “a wee bit disinterested” during the Hoops’ pre-season games.

Edouard acknowledged the former Celtic star’s comments on his personal Twitter account after his treble on Sunday afternoon.

Hutton admits he was baffled by McAvennie’s claims and insists the Hoops striker silenced any doubted on the opening day of the season.

Hutton told Football Insider: “There were question marks over him at the start of the season, a few pundits were saying maybe his head was turned, he wasn’t fully committed and things like that but wow, did he shut everybody up?

“Honestly, I was reading it and was just thinking: ‘What are you doing, you’re just going to make him angry, you’re just going to make him score more goals now.’

“That’s the only way to shut people up is by going and doing what you do best – that’s what he’s gone and done.”

Edouard netted 27 goals and chipped in with a further 19 assists across all competitions last season.

He has been linked with a move away from Parkhead this summer, with two years left on his current Hoops contract.

In other Celtic news, McAvennie claims the Bhoys will need to sell up before signing a “wonderful” midfielder.
