‘Wrexham to make Patrick Bamford move’ with Leeds transfer imminent

Wrexham are planning to make a move for Patrick Bamford as he is set to leave Leeds United in the final month of the transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Leeds are prepared to let the 31-year-old leave for a cut-price fee.

Wrexham are showing major ambition in the transfer market following their promotion and view Bamford as somebody who could bring crucial experience to their side.

However, they are not alone in their pursuit, as Football Insider revealed on 21 July that Bamford will quit Leeds and is open to offers both domestically an abroad.

A number of Championship clubs are believed to have been put on alert by his availability, but Wrexham hope their ambitious plans will help them beat off rivals.

Leeds, meanwhile, are looking to head in a new direction after Football Insider revealed Farke want to sign a new striker to replace Bamford and Joel Piroe.

Wrexham race rival clubs to sign Leeds’ Patrick Bamford

Brown first told Football Insider in October that Leeds are planning to sell Bamford this summer after he fell out of favour under Farke’s management.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that Wrexham’s interest has been long-standing and they are now ready to move.

Wrexham are interested in signing Bamford,” he told Football Insider.

“They see him as a player who can add that extra bit of experience and quality to their team.

“He’s certainly not a Premier League player at this stage of his career, the manager knows that and that’s why Leeds are looking to let him go.

“His injury history over the last couple of years has been a concern as well.

“In the Championship, you’re playing so many games, you have to be fit enough to do that.

“For a team like Wrexham, I think they’ll be prepared to take a gamble on his fitness.

“They’ve just been promoted and want to bring in players to help them bridge that gap, and for that you need experience, with Bamford has plenty of.

“I know a few Championship clubs are looking at him, though, so they’re not alone.

“Wrexham are going to be ambitious and think they can tempt him to join them so I’d expect something to happen before the transfer window closes.”

Everton lead race to sign West Brom’s Tom Fellows

While Bamford is set to leave at some stage in the near future, work is also ongoing to strengthen Farke’s squad in what has been a busy transfer window.

Former Elland Road goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 20 July that Leeds are interested in West Brom’s Tom Fellows, but Everton are leading the race.

The Toffees laid the groundwork for signing the 21-year-old in the January transfer window and are prepared to step up their interest to beat rivals to the deal.

Brown told Football Insider in February that Everton are prepared to complete Fellows’ signing in the summer and have put plans in place to do so.
