Xavi Simons and Djed Spence react to Cristian Romero’s Tottenham training ground message
Xavi Simons and Djed Spence have joined a number of Tottenham stars in reacting to a heartfelt message from Cristian Romero as the club make their return to the Champions League in midweek.
Tottenham have impressed under Thomas Frank so far this season with three wins in their first four Premier League outings to climb to third in the table as it stands.
Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer after he was sacked for poor domestic performances, but the Dane does have his predecessor to thank for guiding Spurs to Europa League glory and into the Champions League for 2025-26.
Tottenham have not taken part in UEFA’s top-rate European competition for the last two seasons, but they are now close to an official return with Villarreal making the trip to North London for a clash on Tuesday (16 September).
Club-captain Cristian Romero is set to play a key part after being a standout from centre-back so far this term, and he has taken to social media to send an encouraging message to the Tottenham fans ahead of the encounter.

Cristian Romero takes to Instagram ahead of Villarreal clash
Romero was handed the Tottenham captaincy by Frank last month, and so he will lead his side out for the first time ever in the Champions League against Villarreal on Tuesday.
The World Cup winner took to Instagram on Monday (14 September) to address Tottenham supporters ahead of the clash, saying: “(@ChampionsLeague) Nos vemos mañana (@SpursOfficial)” with a white heart emoji, which translates to “See you tomorrow.”
A number of his teammates reacted to the heartfelt message to back up the message, with Xavi Simons, Djed Spence, Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Dom Solanke and Kevin Danso all liking the post.
Romero has reiterated that he is happy at Tottenham after summer exit links
Romero joined Spurs from Atalanta in 2021 on an initial season-long loan, and he has developed into one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in the world over the last few years at the club after his move was made permanent in 2022.
Tottenham handed Romero a new four-year contract extension last month following his appointment as captain, after Football Insider had revealed earlier in the summer that Atletico Madrid were plotting a move for Romero amid uncertainty around his future.

He spoke to the media ahead of their Villarreal clash on Tuesday, insisting that he never said he wanted to leave the club and that he is “very happy” in North London right now.
It is no shock that he is pleased at his current situation after Tottenham’s decent start to the new campaign, especially compared to last term, and they can continue their stellar form with a win over their La Liga opponents on home turf in midweek.
