Xavi Simons responds to Liverpool ace Hugo Ekitike’s ‘crazy’ emotional farewell

Hugo Ekitike has sent a farewell message to Frankfurt after joining Liverpool from the Bundesliga club earlier this week.

Liverpool have been busy in this transfer window with Ekitike their fourth major signing of the summer, as the Reds look to hold onto the Premier League crown they won last season.

The 23-year-old has bolstered Arne Slot’s strike force further after Liverpool had already moved to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

Ekitike originally joined Frankfurt on loan from PSG in 2024 and made the move permanent that summer, helping the club to a third placed finish in the Bundesliga last season.

Premier League linked star shares support for Ekitike

Taking to Instagram, Ekitike posted a lengthy message to Frankfurt supporters now his move to Liverpool has been confirmed.

The Frenchman said it’s “crazy how time flies” and that he was “forever an eagle,” at the end of the post, which was liked by RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons who is linked with a move to the Premier League.

Simons also commented on the post, leaving three red heart emojis.

It was exclusively revealed by Football Insider that Simons wants to leave Leipzig this summer and Chelsea and Arsenal were both interested in a move for the Dutch midfielder, who would cost in excess of £60million.

Liverpool forming deadly strike force

Football Insider Verdict

Ekitike clearly felt a strong connection at Frankfurt with the club and its supporters, but the chance to join Liverpool was clearly too good an opportunity for the Frenchman to turn down.

Liverpool also beat Newcastle to Ekitike after the Toon had shown interest.

With only Darwin Nunez as a natural striker at the club, Ekitike is likely to quickly become the club’s main striker.

Ekitike’s record across all competitions for Frankfurt last season.

Nunez is likely to depart Liverpool with Napoli an interested party in the Uruguayan after a mixed three seasons on Merseyside.

At 23, the striker has plenty of potential and his goal record suggests that with the service he will be provided with in this Liverpool team, he could quickly hit the ground running.

Slot though could still move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak after he told the club of his desire to explore a move away.

A deal for Isak would provide Liverpool with a frightening front line, which already scored 86 goals in 38 Premier League games last season.
