Idrissa Gueye has been the signing of the season after moving to Everton from Aston Villa in the summer, according to ex-Toffee Yakubu.
Gueye, 27, has starred for the Toffees this season after being snapped up for around £7million from relegated Villa, alongside the likes of Gareth Barry and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Talking to Everton’s official website, former Everton star Yakubu believes Gueye is going to improve even further next season as the fans continue to applaud their midfield star.
“It is pleasing to see and, for me, he is the signing of the season.” Yakubu said. “He has everything; energy, pace and he supports the team at both ends of the pitch.
“The supporters have taken to him and I’m sure they will enjoy him even more and more as time goes on. I think next season he will be even better.”
Gueye’s willingness to work hard and hassle his opponents has made him somewhat of an unsung hero at Goodison Park, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas taking the plaudits.
Despite jetting off for a month to represent Senegal at the African Cup of Nationa, Gueye has been one of the first names on manager Ronald Koeman’s team sheets this season.
Making 22 appearances, Gueye’s box-to-box style from the middle of the park has seen him play an important part in keeping seven clean sheets as well as providing two assists.
Now, Gueye is expected to make his 23rd appearance of the season on February 25 as the Merseyside outfit welcome back former manager David Moyes and his Sunderland side to Goodison Park.
Yakubu, who scored 33 goals in just 107 Everton appearances, has finally found a new home in League One outfit Coventry City.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have agreed terms with this striker.
