Yankuba Minteh branded ‘pathetic’ in Wolves v Brighton clash
Yankuba Minteh was slammed for squandering a golden opportunity as Brighton visited Wolves in the hope of strengthening their case for the European places.
Fans have become frustrated with Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, despite the south-coast side coming into the contest just one point off a Europa Conference League place.
In the opening fifteen minutes, they had a great opportunity to take the lead as Jose Sa had a moment of madness in the Wolves goal.
The Portuguese keeper passed the ball straight to the feet of Matt O’Riley, who played Minteh through.
With Sa stranded miles from home, the winger looked to lob the Wolves number one, but failed to even get the ball off the ground, to the huge disappointment of Michael Dawson.

Minteh makes mess of golden chance
The ex-Tottenham and England defender was left frustrated with Minteh’s inability to capitalise on the chance.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (10 May, 3.13pm), Dawson was let down by Minteh’s shot, just as he was talking up the end-of-season clash.
He said: “I keep saying it, we’re going to have goals. I’m convinced we’re going to have goals, really good start by both teams.
“There’s no pressure on these guys, they’re having a right go, I’m loving it.
“Here we go, Matt O’Riley, shoot from the half-way line! He’s played it in, here we go, Minteh one v one, ah what a pathetic finish. What a come down, honestly.”
Brighton would take the lead through Danny Welbeck’s penalty to lead 1-0 at the break, after the Englishman had an earlier strike ruled out for Minteh’s interference before it went into the net.

Brighton eager to secure European football
Football Insider Verdict
Brighton are desperate to bring European football back to the Amex, after a season without featuring in any of the three continental competitions.
Back in 2023/24, Albion made it all the way to the Last 16 of the Europa League, where they were beaten 4-1 on aggregate by Roma.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Brighton will let winger Kaoru Mitoma leave this summer, with Saudi side Al Nassr interested in the Japanese international.
| Player | Games Played | Goals | Assists | Yellow Cards |
| Kaoru Mitoma | 33 | 9 | 3 | 1 |
If Mitoma does depart, then the Seagulls will want to ensure they have European football secured, as it will allow them to attract a higher-class of talent to replace their departing star.
Brighton have been consistently praised for the quality of their recruitment process for a long time now, so it would be no surprise to see them bring in a number of unknown stars once again this summer, to replace any potential outgoings.
