Yankuba Minteh rages at ‘elbow’ in Brighton win vs Norwich: ‘He was furious’

Yankuba Minteh was “furious” after a clash during the FA Cup tie that saw Brighton advance against Norwich City, according to Lee Hendrie.

The Seagulls triumphed 4-0, with goals from Julio Enciso, Solly March and a brace from Georginio Rutter. Minteh provided an assist to Rutter, but he was visibly aggrieved early in the match.

The winger was involved in a confrontation with a Norwich opponent, during which Minteh believed he was elbowed by his marker. However, with no VAR in use, the officials were unable to intervene.

Former Aston Villa star Hendrie shared his thoughts on the incident during Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (3:27pm): “Minteh was saying he got elbowed as he went by his marker. I’m not sure there was an awful lot, there was just a coming together as you do and you get in most games to be quite honest.

“But he was furious. He was asking the question about it.”

Brighton signed the Gambian winger from Newcastle United for £30 million just last summer [BBC Sport].

The 20-year-old has impressed at the Amex Stadium with 17 appearances and four goals and assists across all competitions.

However, despite his strong display against Norwich and throughout the season, he was taken off during the game with a suspected injury.

With March returning to the side after over a year out, competition for spots on the wing has increased.

Solly March returned to the Brighton squad against Norwich after a year-long knee injury.

March made an immediate impact, scoring just minutes after coming on. This is a crucial period for Fabian Hurzeler as he enters his second transfer window, with a shake-up on the horizon. Reports suggest Evan Ferguson could be on his way out.

There are also ongoing rumours surrounding technical director David Weir suggesting he may reunite with David Moyes at Everton, which could further destabilise the club.

For now, Brighton’s focus will shift back to the Premier League. The team is in a rut, having gone eight games without a win. If Minteh is sidelined, someone like March could be a suitable replacement to help turn their fortunes around.

In other news, Wolves have been backed to complete the signing of a Brighton defender.
