Yankuba Minteh nominated for Premier League player-of-the-month award
Following a fantastic February, Brighton announced on their Instagram the Gambian winger had been nominated for the Premier League’s player-of-the-month award.
Minteh scored twice in a 3-0 win over Chelsea, and assisted former Leeds man Georginio Rutter in the 4-0 rout of Southampton.

Football Insider Verdict
Following Brighton’s signing of Minteh, the initial reaction was one of surprise, given the Gambian winger’s performances in his solitary season on loan at Feyenoord.
The former Newcastle man scored 10 goals, and assisted five in 27 Eredivisie games, as Feyenoord finished runners-up to PSV Eindhoven.
Minteh’s dribbling ability caught the eye, and his directness on the ball was expected to translate well to the Premier League.

However, after the sale to league-rivals Brighton, it was revealed to be a solely financially motivated decision, as Newcastle strayed dangerously close to failing the Premier League’s PSR checks.
The consequences of the sale were on show in the two club’s meeting in the FA Cup fifth round, as Minteh burst past the Magpies’ back-line to equalise for the Seagulls, who then went on to win the tie 2-1.
As a result of losing the Gambian international, Newcastle have been more cautious in their transfer business this season, with their loss of the young star being Brighton’s gain.
