Yoane Wissa sends heartfelt message to team-mates amid Tottenham transfer update

Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Yoane Wissa has expressed his sympathy after his former club was forcibly relegated.

Brentford are ready to weather a storm of Premier League clubs in the hunt for Wissa’s signature this summer after his 20 goals and five assists in all competitions last season, with Spurs leading the chase.

Wissa has also attracted the attention of Liverpool as Arne Slot looks to bolster his frontline, but Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Brentford will demand over £50million for the DR Congo international.

Tottenham have turned attention to Wissa after their initial pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo came to nothing, but the Bees are expected to reject any approaches made for the 28-year-old below their new price tag.

Wissa leaves emotional message after AC Ajaccio developments

Wissa is one of several leading Premier League attackers Brentford have produced in recent years after Mbeumo, Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins, and he’s been well worth the £8.5m paid to Lorient in 2021.

Lorient signed Wissa from Angers in January 2018 after the striker had a successful loan spell with AC Ajaccio in Ligue 2, scoring 10 goals in 23 games across all competitions to earn his first big career move.

The Corsican side have struggled in the years since though and on 29 June, Ajaccio were provisionally relegated from Ligue 2 to the Championnat National for financial issues despite a twelfth-placed finish.

Wissa posted on his Instagram story (15 June) to show his sympathy for his former club and team-mates, including a photo of his time at Ajaccio alongside an elipses, ‘sad face’ and ‘love heart’ emojis.

Brentford braced for Wissa exit after Tottenham developments

Wissa’s half-season spell at Ajaccio clearly had a lasting impact on the Brentford striker, and Bees boss Keith Andrews will hope that he’s still wearing their red and white stripes for the next 12 months at least.

Mbeumo may not be on his way to Spurs this summer but a big-money move to Manchester United is edging ever closer, and this could free up Tottenham to step up their own pursuit of his striker partner.

Brentford losing both their star players this summer could be disastrous for Andrews’ first season in charge at the Gtech Community Stadium, as they look to avoid following Ajaccio to relegation after Thomas Frank’s departure.
