Youri Tielemans reacts to Emi Martinez announcement at Aston Villa

Youri Tielemans reacted to a brand-new announcement emerging out of Aston Villa regarding goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper has been a loyal servant to the Villans over the years, making Villa Park his home since arriving on a permanent deal from Arsenal in the summer of 2020.

He has gone on to make 213 appearances, becoming a controversial player amongst other teams in the Premier League, but ultimately, a much-loved figure to the Villa fanbase.

Despite this, the Argentine is not expected to be at Villa Park once the 2025/26 campaign kicks off, with Man United the latest team to take an interest in Martinez amid links to Saudi Arabia this summer.

While he is certainly an ageing figure in the Midlands, there is no doubt over his abilities between the sticks, especially after the latest announcement from the Premier League.

Emi Martinez wins Premier League award before Aston Villa exit

Taking to Instagram (31 May), the official club account wrote: “A save like no other. Emi’s stop against Nottingham Forest has been voted the Premier League’s Save of the Season for 2024/25.”

Tielemans liked Villa’s announcement, showing a sign of support for his goalkeeper following a long and arduous campaign at Villa Park.

Unai Emery to prepare for difficult summer transfer window at Villa Park

Football Insider verdict

Martinez is likely to depart the club this summer, and if that does happen, it was not the best parting gift to the supporters after taking Rasmus Hojlund out for his red card against Man United on the final day.

However, with concerns over the PSR situation at Villa Park, he may not be the only big name leaving Emery’s team ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Tielemans has been linked with a Villa exit, also having admirers from the Saudi Pro League, while Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Leon Bailey could all end up leaving during the summer window.

Emery could be fielding a very different starting lineup next season, especially after missing out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the campaign.

After a sensational few seasons under the Spaniard, though, it should be an easy process to rebuild with more talented players, but it could be a slight setback to Villa’s recent improvements on the pitch.
