Youri Tielemans reacts to new Aston Villa ‘goal’ message from Lucas Digne

Youri Tielemans reacted to a message from his Aston Villa teammate Lucas Digne on social media ahead of their crucial clash with Bournemouth.

Following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Man City in the Premier League and Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final, the Villains appeared to be losing steam in what has been a draining season.

Villa’s deep run in the Champions League that ended at the hands of PSG was a monumental achievement, but the dip in results that followed made it look like it would be an isolated event.

However, Unai Emery’s side bounced back, somewhat unconvincingly, claiming an important 1-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday (3 May).

Those invaluable three points pushed Villa back towards the Premier League’s top-five and a place in next season’s Champions League.

Three points now separate the Midlands side and Chelsea, and a win in their next match against Bournemouth could prove vital.

Lucas Digne sends message to Aston Villa fans

Ahead of their game against Bournemouth, Digne shared a training ground update on Instagram, captioned: “New week same goal”.

The post was then liked by the Frenchman’s in-form teammate Tielemans, showing his support for the left-back.

Aston Villa risk ruined transfer plans if Champions League push fails

Football Insider Verdict

Should the Villains fail to qualify for Champions League football next season, their transfer plans will likely need to be heavily adapted.

Having danced ever so close to failing the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) last summer, much of this summer’s business will be dictated by the guaranteed income from whichever European competition it is that they qualify for.

Marcus Rashford’s permanent move to Villa is largely contingent on qualifying for Europe’s premier competition, and the same is likely true should Emery’s side look to sign Marco Asensio from PSG this summer.

However, to allay some of these issues, the Midlands side may look to shift some of their high earners, such as Ollie Watkins, to pastures new in order to fund the continued push to become a full-time member of England’s elite.
