The confirmation comes after reports by the Scottish Sun that Gers director of football Mark Allen had held talks with the 37-year-old about becoming a manager for the first time in his career.

Football Insider verdict
It does still seem odd that a club the stature and size of Rangers are considering making Gerrard their new boss, but all the signs seem to be that it could be happening. Of course, things are very precarious in football, and the talks could come to an end at a moment’s notice, but it does seem to be the case that Gerrard could very well become the next manager of Rangers, in a move that would be unexpected even by Scottish football’s high standards of confusion. Only time will tell but it looks like it is going to be a very interesting few weeks ahead at Ibrox, both on and off the pitch.
