Danny Fox makes bold claim about Nottingham Forest

By Danny Wright

Danny Fox believes that a fully-fit Nottingham Forest side is a match for any side in the Championship.

Talking in the Nottingham Post, the defender claims that the team proved their qualities when they beat Aston Villa and Newcastle at the City Ground this season, two of the sides who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Newcastle are currently top of the league and on their way to securing an instant return and Fox believes that a fully-fit Forest are just as good as them.

“Our whole squad, in general, when we have everyone fit – you would fancy us against most teams in the Championship,” he said in the Nottingham Post.

“We looked at the Villa squad and they had some chances in the game – but I don’t think anyone could complain that we won the match, given the possession we had.

“We beat Newcastle here as well. When we have a fully fit squad, I think we are a match for anyone.”

It’s a bold claim seeing as Nottingham Forest are currently 17th in the Championship table and just suffered a heavy loss to play-off chasing Norwich.

However, Saturday’s heavy 5-1 loss to Norwich didn’t do much to dispel Fox’s beliefs and he maintains that going into Tuesday night’s clash against Fulham that they can continue to build on their form since Gary Brazil took caretaker charge of the club.

The 30-year-old who has spent almost the entirety of his career playing as a left-back has recently moved into the middle of the Forest defence and has impressed enough for him to consider playing there more often.

Fox has played at the City Ground since leaving Southampton on a free in 2014 after impressing in a loan deal which lasted half of the season before.

The Scot has also played for Everton, Walsall, Celtic and Burnley throughout his career.
