Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has slammed key players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez ahead of this weekend’s north London derby.
The Gunners legend was naming his combined north London XI ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium and has controversially left both players out.
Both players are expected to leave the club, either in January or the summer, with their contracts expiring at the end of the season.
“I was going to go with Alexis Sanchez in attack with Kane, but he has not done anything since he came back. He has not performed this season,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I’m a big fan of Mesut Ozil but he doesn’t turn up in the big games. You can’t just do it when you want to do it.”
Merson only selected three players from his former club, two in defence and one in attack.
Sead Kolasinac, Laurent Koscielny, Alexandre Lacazette were the three Arsenal players to make Merson’s combined XI.
Arsenal have lost four of their 11 Premier League matches this season and are in danger of failing to finish in the top four for the second successive season.
They will be seven points behind their north London rivals with a defeat in tomorrow’s early kick-off.
Tottenham will be hoping to inflict more misery on their rivals after finishing above them for the first time in 22 years last season.
The last three Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Tottenham at the Emirates have ended in a 1-1 draw and Merson is predicting the same score tomorrow.
