Harry Kane’s latest remarks should be enough to strike fear deep into the hearts of Tottenham fans.
The prolific striker isn’t known for making unconsidered remarks to the press and there’s a very clear indication in what he said that could see the lifelong fan depart.
Talking to the Telegraph, when asked what Tottenham would have to do to keep him, Kane replied, “I’ve always said: keep progressing, keep getting better, start winning trophies. That’s the aim, as long as the club keep doing that then, yeah I’m happy here.”
However, winning trophies ins’t that easy – something Tottenham fans know only too well.
They haven’t won anything since the League Cup back in 2008, a competition they’re already out of this season.
Tottenham have performed above their pay grade in the Champions League this season, but current odds of 25/1 on Ladbrokes would seem about right.
Pochettino’s side is also hopelessly off the pace in the Premier League – 19 points behind leaders Manchester City.
They’ll be more concerned about securing Champions League football again net season than mounting an unlikely title comeback.
That just leaves the FA Cup and Tottenham will find out who they will face in the fourth round when the draw is completed at 7.10pm tonight.
The FA Cup might not be Pochettino’s biggest concern this season but if he studies what Kane has said, he should perhaps think about fielding his strongest team here.
Losing Kane would be a disaster for the club just as bad as not qualifying for the Champions League.
