20-year-old fails to deliver: Three worst players in Rangers win v hearts

Comment by Aramide Oladipo

Rangers produced an uninspiring performance to come away with all three points against 10 man Hearts at Ibrox with a 2-1 win.

Joe Garner got an early goal before Hearts equalised with a quick counter attack from a Rangers corner when they were already down to 10 men.

Barrie McKay got the winner just three minutes later following an absolute howler from Hearts keeper Viktor Noring

Here, Football Insider takes a look at the three worst players from their win:

Josh Windass

Despite provoking the red card from Hearts defender Prince Buaben in the 26th minute, the attacking midfielder failed to make any real impact on the game.

The 23-year-old lacked conviction in the final third and he was outshone by veteran Kenny Miller who was the one popping up in good positions and providing decent chances for his teammates.

Windass was at fault for the Hearts equaliser after trying a dummy which was easily intercepted.

Manager Pedro Caixinha decided that he had seen enough and he decided to bring the youngster off three minutes after conceding the goal.

Jon Toral

Just when Rangers needed the midfielder to take the game by the scruff of the neck, Toral seemed to get bullied in the midfield especially in the second half.

The 22-year-old failed to get his foot on the ball and slow down the tempo especially when Hearts were in the ascendency after the interval.

His central midfielder Jason Holt didn’t give him much support in the centre of the park but it was Toral who produced the poorer display between the two.

The youngster was eventually put out of his misery in the 73rd minute when he was replaced by Martyn Waghorn as Caixinha decided to go for a more attacking option in the latter stages of the game.

David Bates

Pedro Caixinha decided that Bates deserved a second chance following his poor display last week against Partick Thistle but the young man failed to deliver the goods for his manager.

The 20-year-old showed a lack of experience as he found himself in poor defensive positions especially in the second half.

The main reason why Clint Hill played one of the best matches during his spell at the club was because Bates left him completely exposed on numerous occasions.

The youngster also made a poor challenge in the build up to the Hearts equaliser as he decided to lunge into a tackle instead of staying on his feet and waiting for back up to arrive.
