£20m-rated star must not be sold: Three things we learned about Aston Villa from win v Norwich
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Football Insider analyses the three talking points after Aston Villa beat Norwich 2-0 in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Kodjia must not be sold
Yet another game, and more goals for Villa’s star man, Jonathan Kodjia. In March, former Birmingham City captain, Martin O’Connor stated that he would sell Kodjia for £20million in the summer if a bid was made for him. However, Steve Bruce must do everything in his power to ensure he is wearing a Villa shirt next season. The Ivory Coast international has scored 17 goals this term, a valuable return for a team that has been struggling for the majority of the campaign.
Hogan injury a worry
The club’s summer signing recently returned from an injury lay-off when he scored his first goal for the club against Wigan, prior to the international break. However, Hogan limped off once again in the first-half, this time against Norwich which would worry the Villa Park faithful. It means that Bruce’s side are light up front with Jonathan Kodjia the only recognised striker fit and available.

Late push not off the cards
After Kodjia’s brace had helped Villa secure a valuable three points, it meant that Villa are now ten points off the top six. It is unlikely that they will finish in the play-offs but still trying to aim for that target will help them in the long run. Villa need to finish the season off in a positive fashion, regardless of what happens this season because in the next campaign their minimum target will be to earn promotion.
