22-year-old should be axed: Three things we learned about Aston Villa from defeat v Huddersfield
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Football Insider analyses the three talking points after Aston Villa lose 1-0 at Huddersfield in the Championship on Tuesday night.
Treatment room filling up
Prior to the game against Huddersfield, youngster James Bree came in for regular starter Alan Hutton who was absent from the matchday squad. An injury could only be the real reason for him missing out altogether and if true it will be another body blow to manager Steve Bruce. The treatment room is already filling up with the likes of Birkir Bjarnason, Andre Green, Jack Grealish, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Scott Hogan and Gabby Agbonlahor all currently sidelined. After the club’s recent revival, more bad fortune is the last thing Bruce wants following their torrid run in January and February.
Bree better than Hutton
Right-back Bree was given the opportunity to start the clash against Huddersfield on Tuesday night and the January signing did not disappoint. During the match, he had two shots on goal, a clear indication as to what type of full back he wants to be. His counterpart, Hutton, shouldn’t be criticised because his commitment and effort should be appreciated But, going forward the youngster offers more which in tune helps the team.

Davis must start against Sheffield Wednesday
After the defeat against Huddersfield, Villa will welcome their Yorkshire neighbours, Sheffield Wednesday to Villa Park on Saturday afternoon. For that game, Bruce must start 19-year-old Keinan Davis in attack and axe 22-year-old Jordan Amavi. This would give Bruce the chance to be more attacking with Jonathan Kodjia going out wide. During the game against David Wagner’s side the away team only mustered one shot on target. With the injuries adding up, that is not going to improve unless Bruce gives the youngsters a chance. Villa have nothing to lose and are sitting in mid-table. This is his chance to learn and build these eager academy players.
In other Aston Villa news, Jacob Bedeau has sent this message after playing alongside Christopher Samba for the club’s under-23 side.
