23-year-old to be exposed: Three things to expect from Tottenham against Southampton
COMMENT By Dominic Toner
Tottenham host Southampton on Sunday in the Premier League and will be looking to strengthen their position in the top four.
Spurs have won their last three consecutive games and are fresh off the back of a 6-0 victory in the FA Cup quarter-finals against League One side Millwall.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now focused on the league and will be looking to maintain their unbeaten home record in the top-flight this season.
Football Insider predicts three things that are likely to happen in the clash between Spurs and Southampton.
Dier to be exposed

Spurs centre-back Eric Dier is yet to fully convince fans since his switch into defence and could be exposed against the Saints. The 23-year-old played as a defensive midfielder last season, but now features as the right sided centre-back in a three-man defence. That means he will be lining up against Nathan Redmond, who has been in fantastic form for Southampton this season. The pacy winger has shown a great attacking threat and often likes to cut inside to influence the play. He could look to expose Dier and has the trickery to give him a difficult afternoon. Redmond scored twice in the club’s last game against Watford and will be in good spirits going into the Spurs clash. Dier will need to be at his best if he is to contain the in-form attacker.
Son to thrive in attack
Spurs forward Heung-Min Son is likely to get the nod to lead the line ahead of Vincent Janssen against the Saints, with talisman Harry Kane sidelined through injury. Son, 24, will be desperate to make the most of a rare starting place and he has all the tools to thrive in attack. He has an impressive record of 14 goals in 35 appearances this season, despite being used as a substitute frequently. The South Korea international scored a hat-trick in his last game against Millwall and his confidence will be sky high. Son is a versatile attacker that can drift in-between defenders, hold up the ball, and most importantly find the back of the net.
Gabbiadini to score
Southampton forward Manolo Gabbiadini has been sensational since his January arrival and can be extended to continue that form at the weekend. The 25-year-old has scored six goals in just four appearances so far and there is no indication that his goal run is going to stop anytime soon. He has made a smooth transition the English football and looks a natural in front of goal. Gabbiadini has netted in every game so far and his clinical finishing will be a concern for Spurs’ backline. The north London club do have one of the best defences in the Premier League, but the form of Gabbiadini makes him the most likely goal scorer in this match.
In other Tottenham news, the club’s supported have urged Daniel Levy to splash the cash on a European wonderkid.
