Celtic’s team selection for the Old Firm derby threw up one surprise when it was revealed that Scott Bain will make his first start for the Bhoys against Rangers at Ibrox.

The team was announced a short time ago on the Bhoys’ official Twitter page.

Bain replaces Dorus de Vries who may have suffered an injury in training, and the 26-year-old is set for the biggest test of them all in his first start for the Hoops.

The on-loan goalkeeper will need to prove that he is mentally strong enough to handle what is bound to be a feisty occasion, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Rangers put Bain under pressure early on with a series of shots on goal and crosses into the box.

The Old Firm game can make or break a player’s career, even more so for a goalkeeper – Ian Andrews never recovered from losing five goals to the Light Blues in 1988 – but Brendan Rodgers will have confidence that the player who arrived on-loan from Dundee in January will be able to handle the match.

Even if Bain is only with the Bhoys until the end of the season, if he plays a part in a win which all but clinches the league title he will be fondly remembered by supporters.
