It seems certain that Celtic’s first choice striker to buy this summer is Odsonne Edouard. The Hoops seem eager to complete the French striker’s loan deal into a permanent one.
But as yet no deal for the 20-year-old has been completed, and the Hoops have a deadline of June 16th to take up the option to sign the player.
If the move for Edouard does not happen, there is a potential replacement that the Hoops could be looking it, if reports are to be believed – Peterborough’s Jack Marriott.
Interestingly, the Scottish Sun reported that whilst Rangers were put off by the £5milion price tag placed on the player’s head, they believe that the Hoops have ‘scouted’ the 23-year-old.
The lower leagues in England have proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Hoops before, Gary Hooper was signed from Scunthorpe and went on to have an excellent career with the Bhoys.
Marriott, who scored 33 goals in all competitions last season, has a very good eye on goal, and judging by the transfer market these days £5million is decent money for a proven goalscorer.
There is no doubt that the first option for the Hoops is Edouard, and they will hope to get the deal done for him as soon as they possibly can.
But should no deal for Edouard be agreed, then Marriott looks like a more than capable replacement.
