5 things Newcastle fans might not know about Jacob Ramsey
Jacob Ramsey looks set to join Newcastle and Toon supporters will be excited to see their new midfielder in action.
Football insider revealed that Ramsey was “unhappy” at Aston Villa and wanted to reignite his career with a move away this summer.
It was exclusively revealed by Football Insider that Aston Villa would have accepted £50million from Nottingham Forest for Ramsey, however Newcastle have won the race for the 24-year-old.
It is a piece of positive news in a tough summer for the club amid Alexander Isak wanting to leave and Eddie Howe’s struggles to sign a new striker.
Here are five things that Newcastle supporters may not know about new arrival Ramsey.
Ramsey is a product of the Villa academy

Ramsey was born in Birmingham and joined the Aston Villa academy when he was just six years old, signing his first professional contract for the club in 2019.
The move to Newcastle will end an 18 year spell for Ramsey at Villa Park, in which time he made over 160 senior appearances for his boyhood club.
Appearances | 167 |
Goals | 17 |
Assists | 19 |
The midfielder spent the second half of the 2019-20 season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, but other than that Ramsey knows nothing other than playing for Aston Villa.
Ramsey’s most memorable moment so far
Scoring his first goal for Aston Villa against Arsenal would have been a proud moment for Ramsey, even if the strike was just a consolation.
Ramsey will also fondly remember his first goal at Villa Park in-front of the Holte End in a draw against Manchester United in January 2022.
The 24-year-old has yet to earn a senior England call-up, but he has played at every age group for The Three Lions.
Ramsey has an injury record
Unfortunately for Newcastle, Ramsey has an injury record which has forced to him to miss plenty of action over the past two seasons.
Ramsey has had to deal with multiple hamstring injuries, muscle and foot injuries, in what will be a slight concern for Howe.
Last season, Ramsey missed 10 games due to injury, and he will want to stay free of any problems on Tyneside to be able to break into a strong Newcastle midfield.
Who has Ramsey been compared with?
The I [13 August] says Ramsey “boasted a technical ability, spatial awareness and footballing intelligence to rival Jack Grealish.”
Grealish is another product of the Aston Villa academy and his success at the club earned him a £100million to Manchester City.
The 29-year-old has joined Everton on a season long loan, though his quality on the ball has never been in doubt.
Newcastle will have an exciting prospect on their hands if Ramsey can come close to Grealish’ quality.
Does Ramsey have a famous family?

Ramsey has a brother who too will play in the Premier League this season, and will also operate in midfield.
Aaron Ramsey plays for Burnley and is two years younger than his older sibling.
Also coming through the Aston Villa academy, Aaron had multiple loan spells to EFL clubs before moving to Burnley in 2023.
The pair’s father, Martin, was a professional boxer who most notably fought twice, and lost both times, against Ricky Hatton.
