Celtic fans have reacted with confusion to the side picked by Brendan Rodgers to play Motherwell today.

The team, which was announced on Celtic’s official Twitter account, features starts for squad players such as Jonny Hayes, Kristoffer Ajer and Odsonne Edouard, with the likes of Leigh Griffiths, James Forrest and Jozo Simunovic on the bench.

The team, which was chosen with Tuesday’s game against Anderlecht in mind, was described as “weak” by one fan on social media.

The teams first met in Sunday’s Betfred Cup Final at Hampden Park, which Celtic won 2-0 thanks to goals from James Forrest and Moussa Dembele.

The second game was a 1-1 draw at Fir Park on Wednesday night, a Mikael Lustig own goal giving Motherwell lead before a late Scott Sinclair penalty salvaged a point for the Hoops.

The Steelmen have nursed a grievance in both games, feeling that the decisions to award Celtic penalties have been incorrect.

Celtic have increased their unbeaten run to 66 games after the first two games, and will be hoping to make it a 67 without defeat following today’s game.
