Report: Arsenal jet in on transfer mission for top-flight double swoop
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is wanted by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, according to a report.
Italian media publication Calcio Mercato understands that Gunners scouts were present to watch Napoli play RB Leipzig in the Europa League on Thursday night as the Serie A leaders fell to a 3-1 defeat.
And it would seem that the Senegal international was not the only player that has caught the eye of the Gunners boss.
Striker Lorenzo Insigne is also a target for the North London outfit who it would appear are plotting an overhaul of their squad.
According to the same report, Arsenal were also eyeing up RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner in the same match.
The potential arrival of Khoulibaly to the Emirates is massive for the Gunners. This is the sort of player that Arsenal supporters have been waiting for as the Senegal international has it all; speed, aggression, and a love of the tackle – the 26-year-old possesses all that the North London outfit currently lack. A distinct lack of steel at the back and in the centre of the park has led to the downfall of the side in recent years, leaving them adrift of the top four and all hope of Champions League football next season, a pipe dream. However, Khoulibaly is the man that can change all that and if Wenger can bag his man, along with a defensive midfielder in the summer, a return to the Champions League will be on.
