‘A bold move’ – Redknapp sees nothing but success for latest Rangers appointment
Harry Redknapp believes new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard knows exactly what he is doing in beginning his managerial career at Ibrox.
The former Spurs manager claims that with the Gers currently so far behind Celtic at the moment, the only way they can go is up, and Gerrard can be the man to lead them back to the top.
“Listen, Stevie was a great player, but he’s also a very intelligent guy” Redknapp said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Rangers and Celtic are massive clubs. One is in great shape at the moment with what Brendan has done and the other one has been in a mess.
“Every managerial appointment is a gamble, but there is only way for Rangers to go and that is up.
“It’s a great opportunity and it is a bold move for Stevie, too.
“I’m sure he would have had plenty of offers along the line, but he obviously sees it is a big chance.”
Gerrard had his first official day in charge at Ibrox on Friday, and the job will begin in earnest next month when the Gers begin their Europa League campaign.

The Gers opportunity did seem too good to turn down for Gerrard, Redknapp is correct about that. Even if is your first managerial job, you can’t turn down one of the biggest clubs in Britain, and become a legend if you lead the team to the title. And as Redknapp says, the only way seems to be up for the Ibrox side, who will no doubt get a boost from the high-profile nature of their new manager, who was a legend at Liverpool. Of course what really matters is results on the pitch and bringing new players in. It will be intriguing to see who Gerrard brings in, and if they are players he has wanted to sign or that director of football Mark Allen has wanted to sign. As Redknapp says though, Gerrard is a smart guy, and he will know what is going on at Ibrox before he agreed to take the job on.
