There is “something going on behind the scenes” at Tottenham and a lot of players are “not happy”.
That is according to former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Hugo Lloris’ comments about Spurs’ shock Europa League exit last week.
Lloris told BT Sport after the 3-0 loss at Dinamo Zagreb that his side’s performance was “a disgrace”.
Intriguingly, he described their display as “a reflection of what’s going on in the club” – a possible hint to unrest behind the scenes.
Campbell claimed there is “no smoke without fire” and suggested it has something to do with manager Jose Mourinho.
“Obviously something is going on behind the scenes at Tottenham and it is something that a lot of the players are not happy with,” he told Football Insider.
“I do not know what it is but your captain does not come out and say this kind of thing unless there is truth in it. There’s no smoke without fire.
“This is typical Jose Mourinho isn’t it? There are extra-curricular things going on. He is challenging the players, and the players have to respond and all of these kinds of things.”
When asked for his thoughts on Lloris’ interview, Mourinho told Sky Sports: “I didn’t watch it.
“I closed myself in my shell as I was saying before, I don’t need to read or listen or to watch to have a personal reaction.”
