Aaron Ramsdale makes up his mind on Newcastle transfer – sources

Aaron Ramsdale will not join Newcastle United this summer despite rumours linking him with a move to re-join former boss Eddie Howe.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Newcastle view Nick Pope as their number one, while Ramsdale would not be willing to come in as the second choice.

On top of that, the expense involved in signing the Arsenal goalkeeper would restrict the club, as they do not have much leeway to spend big.

The 26-year-old is expected to leave the Emirates this summer, but the Magpies will look elsewhere in their pursuit of a new shot-stopper, with the deal for Ramsdale a non-starter.

Aaron Ramsdale to leave Arsenal amid Newcastle transfer twist

Ramsdale had previously worked with Howe during their time at Bournemouth, with that connection remaining in place, but it will have no effect on any deal for the keeper to move to Newcastle.

Having found himself out of Arsenal’s first team following the arrival of David Raya, Ramsdale made just 11 appearances this season, with only six in the Premier League.

As a result, he will look to move elsewhere this summer, just two years after arriving for £30million.

Howe’s side is in need of a goalkeeper to play backup to Pope, with Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius set to become free agents next month upon the expiry of their contracts.

Any arriving player will be second-choice behind the England international, but will need to challenge him for his place, while Ramsdale wants to be the first-choice immediately wherever he goes.

Nottingham Forest Arsenal

Given the club’s issues with profit and sustainability, Football Insider reported that major sales could take place before any incomings at St James’ Park.

In other news, Arsenal will target Alexander Isak this summer.
