‘Abdoulaye Doucoure to sign new Everton contract’ – fans respond unanimously

Abdoulaye Doucoure entering the Everton “history books” has led to a unanimous verdict from the Goodison Park faithful.

Everton are heading into a summer which will bring about huge changes both on and off the pitch, the biggest of which being their move from Goodison Park to the club’s new home at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Doucoure is one of nine players heading towards the expiry of their contracts on Merseysode at season’s end, woth a further five loanees’ long-term futures also set to be decided by David Moyes this summer.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Premier League clubs are circling Dominic Calvert-Lewin with the striker seemingly set to leave Everton, but Doucoure’s future is still causing plenty of debate.

Everton acknowledge ‘history maker’ Abdoulaye Doucoure

Everton’s sweeping turnaround in form since Moyes’ return to Goodison Park has steered them clear of relegation trouble, with Doucoure remaining one of the constants in the side, as he was for Sean Dyche.

The 32-year-old’s last-gasp winner against Champions League-chasing Nottingham Forest on Saturday makes it five wins, six draws and just two defeats under Moyes, and the Toffees have recognised this.

Doucoure’s form is yet to warrant a new contract offer from Everton

Everton posted on X (16 April) to note “recent goals have gone straight into the history books” for Doucoure, whose Forest strike after 93 minutes and five seconds was their latest-ever away winner.

Adding that to the Mali international’s goal after just 10 seconds against Leicester – their quickest in Goodison Park’s history – it’s clear that Doucoure has etched his name into Evertonian folklore.

Everton fans demand Doucoure contract as history made

Although plenty of Everton fans were more than happy to wave goodbye to Doucoure barely two months ago, that tune has certainly changed with a transformational summer transfer window on the horizon.

Doucoure’s celebration at the City Ground, initiating a phone call and the signing of a new contract, was seen as a clear message to Everton decision-makers, but a contract offer is yet to be put on the table.

However, with some fans saying that Everton “have to keep him here for life” and others tipping him to score the Blues’ last-ever goal at Goodison, Doucoure’s story on Merseyside may not be confined to the history books just yet.
