Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen are looking to reach an agreement with rivals Celtic over the transfer of midfielder Ryan Christie, according to a report.
Christie has found first-team opportunities at a premium at Parkhead this season, and his development has stalled.
However, the Express report that Aberdeen are hoping to get his progress back on track, and land him on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old has made just seven appearances for Celtic this season, and has been an unused substitute on an incredible 12 occasions.
Brendan Rodgers may be prepared to let Christie leave the club this month to gain more regular football, having admitted on Monday that some players may be leaving on loan.
However, the issue for Aberdeen is whether Rodgers will allow his player to join a league rival.
There is though, a massive 21-point gap between the two sides, so the Celtic chief may give the move the green-light on this particular occasion.
Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes had decided to move for Christie after failing in his attempts to bring Norwich midfielder James Maddison back to the club.
Maddison had spent the first-half of the campaign on loan at Pittodrie, but returned to his parent club after his deal expired.
McInnes had yet to strike an agreement with Norwich over an extended deal for the midfielder, and his reported move for Celtic’s Christie suggests that the deal may be dead in the water.
Football Insider verdict
A loan move would do Christie a world of good. Brendan Rodgers has quite a young squad at his disposal which is excellent in the long-term, but the short-term reality is that not all of them are getting regular football. It is therefore little surprise that Rodgers has moved to allow several of his young stars to leave the club on temporary deals, and he should do the same with Christie. He is a promising talent, and will be key figure as Aberdeen seek to break Rangers in their hunt for second spot and European qualification at the end of the campaign. An impressive spell with Derek McInnes’ side could see Christie plead his case to Rodgers to hand him a regular role at Celtic next season.
