Paul Robinson has claimed Tammy Abraham would be a “great signing” for Aston Villa this summer.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper claimed the West Midlands side will face stiff competition for the 23-year-old.
Abraham has been frozen out at Chelsea since Thomas Tuchel was appointed Frank Lampard’s successor in January.
The English centre-forward has played just 17 minutes in Chelsea’s last nine league fixtures and was left out of the squad against Brighton two weeks ago despite being fully fit.
Football Insider understands the club have set aside £40million to pursue the striker, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Villa Park in 2018-19.
Robinson is adamant Abraham will opt to leave Stamford Bridge with his international chances suffering from his recent lack of game time.
“There will be a queue of clubs looking to take Tammy Abraham this summer,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“At this stage of his career he needs to be playing every week. He could have been going to the Euros if he was playing regularly this season and I think that will be the tip of the iceberg for him in regards to leaving.
“Villa can afford him, Leeds can afford him and I do not think there will be a shortage of clubs coming in for him.
“I think he would fit in at Villa very well. He’s got great energy and an eye for goal.”
Abraham scored 26 goals in 40 appearances when at Villa Park two seasons ago.
Speaking on Abraham in 2019, Villa assistant manager John Terry told club media: “I know him very well having played with him at Chelsea. He’s been incredible here.”
