Noel Whelan has revealed his excitement about seeing Eddie Nketiah make his debut for Leeds United after Marcelo Bielsa confirmed he would play some part against Salford City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker and lifelong supporter of the club says he has heard exciting things about the Arsenal loanee and that he is desperate to see what the hype is about.
Leeds boss Bielsa revealed in his press conference that the young attacker would play some minutes against Salford on Tuesday evening, although failed to say whether that would come in the starting XI or off the bench.
Whelan says that there is plenty he wants to see from the attacking starlet, comparing him to former Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham after his dazzling form in the Championship.
“I am absolutely excited because I want to see what else we’ve got that’s going to give us attacking options,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“A lot has been talked about him, I want to see if he is going to be the next Tammy Abraham, getting those 20, 25 goals this season, I want to see why Leeds United and other teams wanted him so badly.
“I want to see his work rate, I want to see his touch, I want to see his dynamism, his pace – everything that you want to see from a striker these days. I’m excited about seeing him.”
Nketiah is lacking in experience of first-team football at any level, having come up through the youth ranks at Arsenal.
He has replaced Kemar Roofe to Elland Road after the striker’s move to Anderlecht over the summer, with Patrick Bamford Bielsa’s first choice for their opening league games.
